Today, I made it a point to venture out in the rain to try Jones Bros. for the first time. When I entered the cafe side, I was greeted with friendly smiles and the atmosphere was most refreshing. I ordered a latte, lemon cupcake, and asian salad to go. I didn’t have to wait too long for my order and rather enjoyed watching the passerby’s. My latte was lukewarm but didn’t have a bad flavor. The cupcake was for my co-worker who had nothing but good things to say about the flavor and texture. Now as for my asian salad well, it didn’t make the cut. This salad rang up for $7.95 and consisted of mixed greens, green onion, 3 cherry tomatoes, shredded carrot, and a cold sliced chicken breast which sat on top covered with tortilla chips. Yes tortilla chips, this concept confused me as I don’t recall ever eating an “asian” salad garnished with tortilla chips. Perhaps crispy noodles or fried wontons but never tortilla chips – red, white, and blue ones for that matter. Overall the salad lacked any flavor and the dressing was way too oily and didn’t have asian flavor at all but rather a very strong vinegar flavor. I honestly had to throw most of the salad away. I am not giving up Jones Bros. totally but I can honestly say that I will not be ordering the asian salad again.
